COUNTDOWN TO DOSTANA - Releasing: 3/5/2011

After making box office history with RACE, Kanti Raaj Shah reunites with Malini Malhotra opposite 2 of his hot new discoveries in DOSTANA!

Summer Pandey

35 year old Summer hails from Nepal and currently resides in San Diego, California. He stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and his current weight is 165 pounds.

Personal Statement: I am a graduate student trying my luck in Trollywood to see where it takes me. I am so excited to start working on Dostana. Eventually I would like to find someone who I can settle down and share the rest of my life with. However, I know it's not easy to find such a match so I am taking it easy for now and keeping myself busy with school, work outs and now films. I worked out really hard to get into the right shape that Kanti ji wanted for John Abraham's part in DOSTANA. With hard work and dedication, I am confident that I will win your hearts!

Farhaaz Khan
33 year old Farhaaz is originally from Pakistan but grew up in Boston, USA. He stands 6 feet 1 inches tall and his current weight is 170 pounds.

Personal Statement: Some words that people have used to describe me include "loyal" "genuine" "affectionate," and "consistent." I am currently working in Supplier Management for a Fortune 500 company based in Boston. A chance meeting with Trollywood actress Amritaa while I was on vacation led to me eventually being signed for the role of Abhishek Bachchan in Dostana. I like to watch movies, play video games (xbox, ps3, wii), board games and run everyday. I believe that a heathy body breeds a healthy mind. I am a hopeless romantic and can't wait to find the right person for me and to eventually get married and have lots of babies!

Kanti Raaj Shah

Q: Congratulations on the stupendous success of Race. After making Trollywood history, are you nervous about the expectations for "DOSTANA?"
Kanti Raaj: Not really because in Dostana, I am making all the moves that made Race successful - and more! The biggest lesson I have learned is that you cannot take your audience for granted. The audience is very smart and will smell a stale film from a distance. In Dostana, I have a fresh script, fresh casting and a very fresh film. I don't believe any Trollywood movie has been made at such a record speed and for this, I am truly thankful to my entire cast - Malini, Summer, Farhaaz and Suzi are all extremely professional. When you see Dostana, you will see a very fresh and a very 2011 film, whether it is the styling, hair, body or clothes. I have worked especially hard with Malini and asked for several reshoots to get the "right look" for my film. I believe all these details will not go unnoticed and I believe that in Dostana, I have absolutely nothing to be nervous of. I anticipate that this film will take both BPP and Trollywood to a higher level.

Q. You seem convinsed of your starcast but isn't it true that you went through numerous casting changes? From Sasha to Monisha and Chameli to Malini. Why were there so many changes?
Kanti Raaj: Every film goes through casting changes, as people move through different stages in their personal and professional lives. As far as Sasha Basu, I have never taken her seriously. She screen tested for Dostana but my producer did not like her so she was thrown out. It's sad that she chose to use this against me and lash out in the media. Chameli was picked through a global talent contest but she backed out due to personal reasons. As for Monisha, having her on board would have delayed the shooting due to her ongoing court case. Hence, when my producer mentioned that Malini was keen to do Dostana, it was a no brainer. Even though I don't know Malini in person, she is the most professional actress I have ever worked with. She is a complete "director's actress" and does not make any unreasonable demands or throw tantrums unlike some leading actresses. If I ask her to do something, she will trust me 100% and not ask any questions. Being a director, this is of utmost importance to me.

Q: Rumor has it that Natasha rejected DOSTANA because she did not want to work with you after Race?
Kanti Raaj: That's the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. How can someone reject an offer that they did not even receive? I cast Natasha as the lead protagonist in Race because she suited the part of Sonia and many people still say this role was closest to her personality. Natasha is family to me and if the right role comes up, I will not hesitate to make her an offer. However, for DOSTANA I wanted a very youthful and athletic look and when you see the film, I think you will agree that it would not suit Natasha at all. I want to note here that just because someone does not suit a role, does not mean they are good or bad. Even though Karan Johar loves Kajol and she's the best actress around, he cannot cast her as an athletic sexy gal because it just would not suit her image!

Q: When are you planning to release Dostana?
Kanti Raaj: Believe it or not, our entire shooting is wrapping up and we are gearing up for a March 5 release via paid previews on:
http://groups.google.com/group/trollywood
I will personally pay for my entire cast to view the film as they should not have to wait to watch their own film! The free general release of the film will be within weeks of the paid preview release. I hope each one of you will show me the same support as you did for RACE.

Malini Malhotra: Steps up her Strategy

2011 has not been kind to Malini Malhotra so far as new polls suggest that arch rival Natasha Rai is running shoulder to shoulder with her at the numero uno spot. After ruling the industry for almost a decade, her position is being threatened. We caught up with her to see how she feels about this new development in her career and to get an update on her strategies to stay on top.

Q: You made headlines recently by refusing several big films like NoOne Killed Sashi and 7 Frauds Maaf. Isn't it true that you are too scared to work outside the BPP banner after the debacle of We R Family?

Malini Malhotra: By the grace of Durga Maa I have spent almost 10 years in this industry so I am not scared of a few flops. Hits and flops are part of the business as none of us are perfect. Honestly, these kinds of roles that are being offered to me, I have to think hard before taking them. Initially I liked the concept of these films but after reading the script, I realized that it was very mean spirited. And I realized that I was just going to be used in these films to make very personal attacks against a well known trollywood personality. Once I realized this, I did not want to be part of this "circus atmosphere" and therefore rejected these films. I have a responsibility towards my fans and I can't do random things. I have to do a role that catches people's attention but not roles that disrespect my colleagues. If my fans love me so much, the least I can do is to come out with good, entertaining films for them. I keep hoping and praying that I get scripts which are different so that I can take up those films. As an actor I want to be seen more so if StarZ® or any other production house has challenging roles for me, I will be delighted to consider these offers. However, I will not allow them to use my name to make personal attacks on anyone!

Q: Until just a few months ago, you were the undisputed numero uno actress in Trollywood. However, all that seems to have changed now with your contemporary Natasha Rai running neck to neck with you. Do you think your time on the top is over?

Malini Malhotra: Honestly, only my fans can answer that question because they are the ones who will determine how long I can stay on top of my career. All I know is that I take each one of their comments very seriously and I have vowed to always do different types of versatile roles so that they do not get tired of seeing me! With regards to Natasha, in the past she has always had the same look and expression in every film but I congratulated her for Fashion as I believe she has shown some improvement in this film. But I don't like being compared to her or anyone else because we all have our own different approaches to our roles. For me, Fashion was not a beauty contest and if it was, my look would have been completely different. Fashion for me, was a film where I was required to look like a supermodel and show stopper Shonali and I believe I have played my part very convincingly. I can't speak for the other actresses but critics and fans all agree that I looked very much like a top notch model in this film. I can only hope that Mr. Bhansali appreciates my work and offers me his next directorial venture - Darr.

Q: Could you please announce your forthcoming films?

Malini Malhotra: In my next film Lajja directed by Marvinder Johar, I play the lead role of Janaki, a classical theater actress. This is very much like Seeta maa kind of role in this film. This character exposes the hypocricy of men in our society who treat us like glamour dolls with no feelings. Just yesterday BPP and I reached an agreement and I can now announce that I have been signed by Kanti Raj Shah to play the lead opposite newcomers Farhaaz Khan and Summer Pandey in Dostana. Initially I was shocked when Kanti was searching for a new girl for Dostana after our last film RACE had become the biggest blockbuster in Trollywood! I felt hurt that he did not come to me directly, even though he had loved my work in Race. I expressed to BPP that I would even accept an item number in Dostana as Kanti's first film Race meant so much for me. I knew that any part in this film would do wonders for my career. I found out later though that another actress had been offered the beautiful item number in Dostana and even though she was also part of Race's success, she rejected the offer. I cried like a baby in the temple and by some miracle, I landed a role in Dostana - not the item number but the lead role.. Jab bhagwan deta hai to chappad phad ke deta hai! I am absolutely thrilled that Kanti came back to me for Race but I should also clear the air that Chameli had to leave the film for personal reasons. She is a beautiful girl but perhaps this was the wrong time for her to enter Trollywood as she is just coming out to her family. After Chameli left, BPP was anxious to start the film quickly and signed me on since I was even willing to do an item song for them. I think when you are sincere and loyal to your producers and directors, they really take notice. I am confident that with Dostana, I will wow the crowds and consolidate my position in this industry.

Q. Dostana stars Farhaaz Khan and Summer Pandey, who are both younger than you. In addition to this, the role you are playing is that of a young girl in her early twenties. Are you sure you will be able to pull this off?

Malini Malhotra: When I used to play homely Indian characters in GMM, Devdas, KANK, LCMD and Silsila, no one could have believed that I can pull off glamor girl roles like Shonali. But after Race and now Fashion where I played a supermodel, I have proved everyone wrong. I can do anything I put my mind into. And if you liked me in Race and Fashion, you will love me in Dostana, where I am going to do the unexpected and take my new glamourous image to a completely new level. I think that age is nothing but a number. As long as I am in great shape, I will always look young. That is the one big advantage of being petite.

Q: There are rumors that you charge a hefty fee to StarZ and work pro-bono for BPP. Why the double standards?

Malini Malhotra: Firstly, I am a BPP discovery and am very loyal to this production house. Whatever our personal differences, I am professionally bound to them as they introduced me and gave me a platform to display my talents. I can never dream to reject their films - even if it happens to be an insignificant part or even an item number. As an example, I was not the lead protagonist in Race but did it solely based on trust since I knew that BPP will always be fair to me. I have always expressed willingness to do anything that they offered me, without even hearing about the role. This is just the kind of humble and well grounded person that I am. I can never be arrogant as to walk out of their films since I appreciate how they launched my career. Secondly, unlike BPP, StarZ is not a non-profit production house. So, it is only fair that if they are making thousands of dollars from my films, then I should get my share of those proceeds.

Q. Which actress do you consider to be your biggest competition in Trollywood?

Malini Malhotra: I think Deepika Parajuli really took me by surprise in We R Family. Although the film didn't do well, her work was well appreciated and I could not believe how amazing her acting abilities were. She has already bagged the Tfare Awards for 2010 and I think people are really going to be surprised when they see her in Lajja. She is one actress I believe that has what it takes to reach the top. She has the right body, looks and attitude to succeed. We R Family may not have done well but remember that from Sridevi to Madhuri and from Juhi to Rani - all their first films were disasters. Wait for Lajja and you will know what I am talking about.

Q. But what about Natasha and Monisha Rai?

Malini Malhotra: Oh, I thought you were asking me about "actresses." If there is any "act" in actress, then Deepika is my only competition.

2010: GLBT World News

Vancouver, Canada on Monday, February 22, 2011
By Senior Research Reporter: Natasha Rai / T-Fare Online

TBC brings you a recap of GLBT news of 2010. From Beauty pageants to fashion world to international careers, Transsexuals have found their place and success worldwide in 2010.

In the airlines industry, PC Thai Airways has hired transsexuals as their flight attendants. The Trans flight attendants wear a special gold “Third gender name tag“ to let the passengers and immigration know their gender. Thanyarat Jirapatpakorn, winner of the Miss International Queen 2007 beauty pageant is one of these successful flight attendants. PC Thai Airways has truly set an example of being an equal opportunity employer and hopefully more Thai companies will follow suit.
In world news, popular US president Barack Obama has appointed a trans woman Amanda Simpson as a Senior Technical Advisor to the Department of Commerce and on the board of National Centre for transgender equality. She is an engineer, physicist and has extensive experience in the aerospace industry.

Also in world news, Lea T, Brazilian supermodel from Givenchy’s fall ad campaign was born Leandro Cerezo, son of former Brazilian soccer star Tohnino Corezo, who has earlier walked the ramp as a male model. She is in the midst of sex transition surgery. Many transgender people have found their way in the Fashion world, but Lea is the first supermodel to make it to the world stage. French Vogue has featured Lea on its cover fully nude. Her beauty is being admired by none other than supermodel Gisele Bundchen and Transformers star Megan Fox who flatters herself as being a Tranny in disguise. Rupaul, the life size transvestite in show business has been very successful with his TV shows Rupaul’s drag Race and Drag U. The season 2 of Rupaul’s drag race shows the winning of Tyra Sanchez, a Trans mother from Florida and the new season 3, has Raja with Indian background, leading the Race. The search of America’s next drag superstar combines creativity, charisma, expression and lip sync for the life. It’s the no 1 show on OUT TV today and it puts America’s next top model show to shame.

In Nepal, closed to the gay rights until just few years ago, there are now Trans pageants, gay marriage and the first international gay parade was also held in August 2010. Hundreds of gays, lesbians and transgender folks marched in the capital in their proud colors celebrating their sexuality. Transgender people are becoming more vocal and visible to the media in this Himalayan nation. Meghna Lama won the Miss Transgender pageant that had the rounds of Hawaiian skirts, saris and interviews. The bikini is still a taboo in Nepal Pageant. The winner gets to travel to Thailand to participate in Tiffany’s Miss International Queen Pageant that brings the Trans beauties of the world to Pattaya. The winner of the 2010 Miss International Queen was Mini from Korea with Miss Japan first runner up and Miss USA 2nd runner up.

In Dec 2009, India hosted its first Transgender Miss India Pageant in Chennai. Transgender from across the country came to contest to win the coveted crown. In addition to the grand prize, awards were also given to beautiful skin, hair and eyes. Kareena Shalini a model from Mumbai won to be the first Miss Trans India followed by Miss Manipur and Miss Chennai. The pageant was established to showcase the skills of the transgender and to address the problems of Trans misconception and discrimination in India.

In the film world, the Bollywood Brokeback Mountain "Dunno y Na Jaane Kyon” is releasing shortly and the highlight of the movie is a Trans dance performed by Indian drag queen Nary to Rekha Rao’s song “Atariya main raja re” that may put her on the list of top Item Queens of Bollywood. People who have seen her dance can’t stop praising her moves that could give Munni and Shelia ki Jawani a run for the money!

In Pakistan Supreme court has issued judgment and order to the Government and Police for equal civil rights for Transgenders and stop social discrimination against them. The transgender in Pakistan have suffered years of discriminations in the society and the harassment by the police. From the Moghul era, Trans genders have been dancing as courtesans till now as the lucky charms for Pakistani weddings. The time has come for them to be more than the wedding dancers and opt for a better life. One good news is that Begum Nawazish Ali is definitely ruling the airwaves in her hugely popular late night show in Pakistan.

TBC is proud to bring you the world Tranny news of 2010 and we will be bringing you more news and success stories of our trans community in 2011 in future. So stay tuned. This is Natasha Rai from TBC. Good night!!

Presenting Farhaaz Khan

T-Fare introduces Farhaaz Khan - the new face of Dostana.

Welcome to Trollywood and Beauty Price Productions. How does it feel to be part of this fraternity?
I have been following Trollywood since Devdas and a little known film called Gayab. Honestly, I am blessed to be here and I cannot wait to start shooting with Kanti Raj. I am excited about my exhibitionist character and have daily talks with Kanti Raj to discuss my look in the film. Honestly, I am blessed to be here.

How did you get discovered?
About 2 years back, I met Amritaa at a party in Karanchi (Pakistan) and I was complimenting her work. She suggested that I should try out for a role and promised to send my pictures to Mr. Bhansali at BPP. I had no expectations at all but a few weeks back I received a call from Mr. Bhansali. He felt that I would really fit the role of John Abraham in Dostana and asked if I was interested. I think my response was "seriously??" The rest is history.

Wasn't Neeraj Khan supposed to be doing this role?
I am not completely sure about the details but have heard that the director Kanti Raj wanted a younger cast to reach out to a younger generation after Race, which had all established actors. On the other hand Mr. Bhansali usually likes to work with established actors so perhaps he felt he wanted to work with Neeraj and Rehan Khan as director. Hence, he asked me to step into Dostana while signing Neeraj and Rehan on for his own directorial venture - DARR. Although I hope to one day work with Mr. Bhansali, I cannot be more thrilled to work with Kanti Raj, that too after Race. Since Race was the biggest blockbuster in Trollywood history, I am really excited about Dostana!

Many of our readers wonder if you are straight or gay?
It's funny the way that kind of stuff is talked about on blogs is so black-and-white. 'Are you straight or are you gay?' All this based on the idea that your object of affection decides your sexuality. For me, its very complicated. I honestly don't fit into either one of those two categories. I believe that there are gray areas out there and that's where I fit in best. Although I have never been with any males sexually, I do not consider myself to be straight because I do have some feelings towards men. Yet, I find that female body parts are far more attractive. Like I said, it's complicated!

Do you have any favorites in Trollywood?
I think all the actors and actresses are highly talented. My personal favorite is Natasha Rai and my favorite film is KANK. I think Natasha is extremely beautiful and enormously talented. She is all-natural from Vogue covers to articles and films, everything she touches turns into gold! She is a class apart from all the actresses in Trollywood and I hope to get a chance to work with her one day. That would be my dream come true!

Trolly Broadcasting Corp (TBC) brings to you First Tfare Award ceremony held on Jan 29, 2011 in Tfare Studios. Since its launch in 2008, Tfare magazine has kept the audience up-to-date with the latest news, reports and entertainment covering Trollywood movies, Tranny news and Trolly star interviews. Tfare was a concept of Trollywood Founder and chairman AL Bhansali, who established Trollywood and its production house Beauty Price Productions (BPP) in 2005 with its first debut movie DEVDAS starring legendary Neeraj Khan, Malini Malhotra and Natasha Rai. With the phenomenal success of DEVDAS, BPP produced KANK, GMM and LCMD with Malhotra brothers Saagar and Rajiv.

The 2009 blockbuster SILSILA - Settlement of a Scam brought Rajiv Malhotra to fame though Rajiv's stardom was short lived with his untimely demise. We at TBC take this moment to pray for his soul. Tfare also introduced its first Vogue copy with Natasha Rai on the cover. 2009 also saw the launch of Trollygossip and its production house StarZ covering news, views of Trollywood celebrities. StarZ produced '3 TRANNIES' that did not see the success of Bollywood's 3 IDIOTS while BPP's AAJA NACHLE brought Amritaa to the limelight. Unfortunately, after Aaja Nachle Amritaa decided retire at the peak of her career and settled down in Atlanta, Georgia. She now calls herself "a dutiful housewife and a full-time Mom!"

BPP with its new director Kanti Shah made history in Trollywood industry in 2010 with its Super successful RACE. The movie drew audiences from all over the world and made more revenues in its international market and the movie brought newcomer Monisha Rai to instant fame and actor Saagar Malhotra to the top slot. 2010 also saw a big leap in the worldwide popularity of Tfare report and brought accolades to Natasha Rai for her “Trans beauties of Nepal” and Malati Chopra for her “Kaushal case in San Francisco”. The biggest recognition was yet to come in Trollywood where the much awaited BPP's FASHION became the international phenomenon with its shows still drawing crowd at slide theatres.

AL Bhansali with his new Asst. Director Marvinder Johar left no stone unturned to make FASHION a truly world class movie. The movie also drove huge fan following for Rehan Khan and Kitty Khare. This was also a big year for StarZ productions as its maiden venture WE ARE FAMILY, which got minimal response from audience despite a thumbs up from the critics. Newcomer Deepika Parajuli got a good response from the industry and is curretnly being considered for some prestegious BPP films.
