50 Shades from Grey to Gay

50 Shades of Gay
TGF released it's much hyped Valentine's Day erotic thriller "50 Shades of Gay" on February 11, 2015 through paid previews. The marketing strategy was very similar to that of Darr 3 by BPP™.

The film is now released to the public and along with the promotion, we are happy to introduce you to the Columbia University educated director of 50 Shades of Gay, Kapil Bhandarkar.

Tfare: Can you tell us why you decided to make this film?

Kapil: Certainly. I have no hesitation in admitting that the idea actually came from Rehan. He felt that with Friday the 13th being a spookie day and also the release of the much talked about 50 Shades of Grey, it would be perfect to release a spoof titled "50 Shades of Gay." I agreed whole heatedly and we decided to make an edgy film with a deliberately dark theme that said it all - love it or hate it, you can't ignore it!

Tfare: Many people even within the gay community have reacted negatively to the highly sexual and almost a threesome situation depicted in the promos. Please explain?

Kapil: As I mentioned, we knew we were making an edgy film - something never done before in Trollywood. 50 Shades of Grey actually explores a much more bohemian topic than our film which is simply a love triangle. If millions of mainstream audience are overwhelmingly supporting an S&M film, then why are we being so narrow minded about a Trollywood love triangle? People will see what they want to see and maybe that's what we tried to accomplish. But fact is that t
he promo just shows one couple kissing while the ex boy friend played by Rehan is clearly looking away. People are free to interpret how they want but I have been true to myself and my audience in making a love story. Our film probably has more in common with the Bollywood hit Dil to Paagal Hai than any Hollywood S&M film.

Tfare: You are the most successful director under TGF™. What are your future plans?

Kapil: Well in the immediate future my plan is to promote my film in every way I can and for that I am truly thankful to Tfare staff for giving me this opportunity here. In the more distant future, I hope to come up with an interesting script and work for bigger production houses and maybe even BPP™! (winks)

Tfare: Who else would you like to work with in Trollywood?

Kapil: I definitely want to work with the most successful artists but from the guys Niraj is on top of my list. As for the girls, of course like everyone else I would be honored to work with the talented and beautiful diva Natasha Rai. I've followed her films even before I came to this industry. Her growth as an actress has been astounding but I still think her best is yet to come. Hopefully it will be a film with me one day.

Tfare: Any last message for our readers?

Kapil: Before judging a book by it's cover, I ask all Tfare readers to please see this film and make up your own minds. Thank you so much for supporting this and all my previous films!
