Aishwarya R. Bachchan Charged with Tax Fraud!

The Bollywood Bachchan bahu may have been screaming from rooftops over the last 10 years about being a real, genuine and down to earth person. However, the Income Tax Department of India begs to differ. Income Tax commissioner, central-I, has dragged the actress to the Bombay High Court, charging her with tax-fraud!

According to Indian Tax laws, if a person stays out of the country for over 186 days, they are allowed to claim "Non resident Indian" status and avoid paying income taxes. 10 years ago, Aishwarya claimed to be an NRI and reported an income of only Rs, 2 lakhs. The Income taxmen raided her place recently and found that her passport showed that she was NOT an NRI during the tax assessment. She had been abroad for only 92 days. Therefore, she had fraudulently claimed that she was NRI and evaded thousands of dollars in income taxes. IT Officers found that she had also attempted to scam the government by evading taxes on the money she made from the Miss. World pageant (approximately £50,000).

In light of this development, many Trollywood celebrities have drawn parallels to the recent Richa Koppikar case. Saagar Malhotra responded "I never liked her from the beginning. I found her to be a very manipulative, greedy and fake person. Time has proven me right." Veteran director AL Bhansali echoed Saagar's words "When someone is genuinely nice, they don't need to remind people all the time that they are nice because this just screams fake. I am glad this episode is allowing people to see her for who she really is." Malini N.
